cotch 7/135 Benji Melville 61 retired, Fletcher O’Connell 19 retired

Hale 125 Alex Russell-Weisz 5/17, Henry Vaughn 2/13

Scotch batted first and made 7 for 135. Benji Melville and Fletcher O’Connell (19 retired) put on 71 for the second wicket partnership to have the team in a very strong position at the half way point in the innings. Benji batted superbly, displaying a great array of shots and he was retired on 61. The remaining batsmen worked hard however they struggled to maintain the run rate that had been set. Hale bowled well which made it difficult to score. The team needs to look at rotating the strike more often in future weeks.

Rory King and Henry Vaughn got Scotch off to a great start in the field. After eight overs Hale were 2 for 11 with both bowlers claiming a wicket. Hale then worked hard and the game was very evenly poised as it headed in to the final overs. Hale required 13 from the last two overs when Alex Russell-Weisz was handed the ball. He bowled a superb line and length and after conceding one single from the first three balls he then clean bowled the dangerous Hale number eight batsmen. The next ball was a carbon copy and Hale now needed 12 runs from 7 balls with only a wicket in hand. Alex delivered another perfect ball and clean bowled the last Hale player to claim a wonderful hat-trick, with all three players clean bowled. Alex finished with the wonderful figures of 5/17 from his four overs. Scotch won by 10 runs in a very entertaining game.
