On: Saturday, 16 Feb 2019
Venue: Away

The Scotch 2ND XI got off the mark for 2019 with a dominant display against Trinity College at Waterford. TC won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good wicket and pleasant bowling conditions for the Scotch boys.

Scotch opened up with Skipper Fraser Goode with the ball and he broke through early with a sharp C&B chance, before fantastic spells from Jack Kapinkoff and Ricardo Holder had the Scotch XI well and truly on top, with the hosts reeling at 5/49 and then 6/61. Max Bailey bowled a fantastic delivery to claim a key wicket too, in what could be an early ‘ball of the season’ contender.

Scotch kept the pressure on with relentless line and length, and great spells from Goode, Barwood and Beazley at the end of the innings, and made sure we closed the innings strongly, bowling out TC for 118.

Skipper Goode finished with 3 wickets, Holder and Kapinkoff 2, with singles to Barwood, Beazley and Bailey.

Barwood and Goode opened up with the instructions to take 10 overs and get into the innings to set a platform the for the rest of the side. Barwood was bowled by a good full delivery and Scotch were 1/15.

Goode and Plowman came together to form a strong partnership, which lasted 35 runs when Goode (20) was bowled by a ball that cut back off a length. Scotch 2/41.

Ben Chapman was then trapped LBW for 11. Scotch were still in a strong position at 3/60 but however, were still 58 runs from victory.

Hugh Plowman, was looking in control all innings and timed his run chase superbly as he accelerated with Lachie Stephenson to chase the winning runs in the 29th over.

Plowman with a fantastic innings of 47 not out and Stephenson with a classy 33 not out ensured the win for the Scotch lads by 7 wickets.

Next up Guildford at home as the lads look to keep to continue the good form.
