Match Report
Scotch College 2nd XI vs  Wesley College
On: Saturday, 16 Mar 2019
Venue: at Home

The Scotch 2ND XI continued their good form for 2019 with a dominant display against Wesley at Home. Scotch Skipper Caleb Evans won the toss and elected to bat first.

Saami Welsh and Xander Melville opened the batting with the instructions to bat for 10 overs and see off the new ball. Unfortunately Saami perished in the 2nd over, bowled by a swinging delivery. Xander left also shortly after due to a contentious LBW Decision. Hugh Plowman also top edged a short ball, and the side was reeling at a worrying scoreline of 3/20.

Enter the match saving partnership of Lachie Stevenson (53) and Jack Beazley (38), who both batted brilliantly to contribute a 94 run stand to give Scotch a great total to launch in the final 15 overs. A fantastic showing of maturity, determination and class from Beazley and Stevenson, to keep Scotch in the contest, and set up a match winning score.

Some glorious clean hitting from Skipper Evans (54) and cameos from Gaffey (18) and McTaggart (19no) down the order, ensured Scotch made a very impressive 9/224.

Kirwan McTaggart and Ricardo Holder resumed their quality new ball bowling which we have seen all term so far, both striking early with key wickets.

Some great spells from Tan, Chapman and Welsh, ensured Wesley were always on the back foot, but to Wesley’s credit, they batted well to protect their wickets and end the day at 9/151.

Ned Gaffey, on his second team debut, was the pick of bowling with 2/8 off 6, and Holder also claimed 2/27 off 9.

Scotch 2nds have a great opportunity to finish the term with the best record in 2nd 11 competition, if they can overcome a strong Aquinas side this Saturday.
