5ths Badminton Sport Report vs CCGS 04/05/2019

The 5ths badminton squad were excited to start their season off well against Christ Church Grammar playing away at MLC. With many of the boys having little experience playing badminton competitively, they all played some very good games. Highlights came from Holden who won 27-25, 21-16 using his dropshots very well to frustrate his opponent. Roger also had a great victory thanks to his very deep overhead clears, winning 21-13, 21-12. Holden and Sean worked well as a pair, communicating very effectively resulting in a 21-15, 21-15 victory. Matt and Bailey played a long 3 set doubles match that required a level of endurance from all players. The momentum started off with the opposition who won 12-21, but then the Scotch boys regained their composure and won the next two sets 21-17, 21-19 which was a fantastic effort. Although there were some fantastic games played, the team went down 4-5, but it was pleasing to see the sportsmanship displayed by the boys, who look forward to improving their skills as the season progresses.

6ths Badminton Sport Report vs CCGS 04/05/2019

The 6ths badminton squad were excited to start their season off well against Christ Church Grammar School playing away at MLC. The Christchurch squad looked quite strong during the warmups, but the Scotch boys ignored this and went in with their best efforts. Will T played a great game, utilising a smashing technique that was discussed in training to come away with a 21-13, 21-16 victory which was a great effort. Tom also played a very consistent game which overcame his opponent in the long run, winning 21-18, 21-11. The Scotch boys were very strong in the doubles, winning 2/3 of the matches thanks to some great teamwork by the pairs. Jack and Will T utilised each other’s strengths to beat their opponents in what was a very close game 21-13, 19-21, 23-21. Angus and Tom also played very well, winning their match 21-13, 21-15. Overall the boys played some great badminton, but unfortunately the Christ Church squad managed to come away with the overall victory 5-4 which was an appropriate result given how close most of the matches were.
